I do a word for the year every year. It’s really helped me focus on what I’m working on. 2018 was Create, 2019 was Bloom, and this year – its WELLNESS. I mean this in all areas. Good habits, good choices, taking care of myself in all the ways so I can be my best self at work, best mama, best friend, and just best version of myself.
It means finding a way to incorporate wellness into every part of my life – not just the workouts, or the meals, or the 10min morning meditation. Every choice, every time I choose how to spend my time, asking the question: “Does this show love to myself?” Meaning my body, my heart, my mind, my soul… any or all of it.
I’m doing some basics like really looking at what I eat, trying to be more intentional about exercise, and removing toxins from our home products. I’m going a little further with working on my conscious parenting, mindfulness practice, and teaching my children to look for the good in every day. I’m going really far by evaluating every part of my life and deciding if it adds or subtracts to my well-being, and adjusting accordingly.
It’s an overhaul kind of year, for sure. It’s going to be a lot of work, but I’m already seeing the results and it’s February. I am struggling to commit to new habits, but I am finding more awareness about the habits I have that I don’t want to keep, and making small changes as I notice. I can’t wait to share the journey!
One of the biggest ways I’m doing this? I’m connecting with people who are focused on wellness too, which is helping me move forward. It’s important to be around people who are working towards something, and some who have gotten farther on the journey, to encourage you and keep you motivated. Who you spend your time with is more influential than anything else, so making the right choices there makes all the difference.
